Tej Kohli, an Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist with an estimated net worth of $6 billion, fervently believes that his 13-year-old son will live to be between 125 and 150.

He also plans to transform agricultural productivity in developing markets by giving farmers hundreds of thousands of solar-powered pumps.

His most far-reaching plan, however, concerns his vision to heal half the world’s blind.

“Close your eyes for 10 minutes,” he instructs, “and you will find there’s nothing you can do.

“There are 39 million blind people in the world, out of 285 million people with visual impairment. Between 12 million and 14 million of the 39 million are in India and research indicates that blindness is heavily impacted by poverty.

“The tragedy is much blindness, including nearly 75% of corneal disease, is avoidable. So why is more not being done about this?”
